Arena Bar TTDI’s First Anniversary Party Presented by The Macallan

We were recently invited to Arena Bar TTDI’s 1st Anniversary Party on 5 April 2018 which was presented by The Macallan. The Macallan single malt whiskies are made with exceptional oak casks that are the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality, natural colours and distinctive aromas and flavours of The Macallan. Unmatched and peerless, it is perfect for a chilled night at home, drinks with friends at the bar, or a happening party in a club!

At the event, we enjoyed the Macallan Double Cask and Fine Oak variants which are part of the Trilogy (which you can read more about here – https://timchew.net/2016/10/08/toast-the-macallan-kuala-lumpur-2016/).

Our influencers enjoyed the Macallan Fine Oak which is a lighter style Macallan with the addition of American oak bourbon seasoned barrels which imparts aromas and flavours slightly drier and more oaky than the American oak sherry casks. As such, there are more pronounced aromas and flavours of citrus, vanilla, and coconut, coupled with the lighter colour and sweetness associated with American oak.

On the other hand, the Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old is a single malt that tells a journey; a story that brings together two different worlds. Bringing new oak from America across the seas to Spain, the casks are crafted and seasoned with sherry before making its way back to their distillery in Scotland and left to mature for at least 12 years before harmoniously blending them with the very best sherry-seasoned European Oak Casks.

The Macallan Double Cask is beautifully balanced expression containing flavour profiles of the Macallan Fine Oak and Macallan Sherry Cask! It is creamy and oily on the palate (due to Macallan’s short stills) yet beautifully balanced with spice and oak to make you keep wanting to drink this to uncover more and more flavours! Not a hugely complex whisky but one that can be enjoyed and appreciated without the haughtiness that sometimes comes with older/ more pricey labels.

If you purchase a Macallan package in Arena Bar, it comes with a special presentation with the bottles delivered to you and displayed in a unique rotating case!

The Calvin Klein watches and jewelry collections feature seductive yet clean and often minimalist aesthetic, with innovative, bold, progressive and seductive designs. First launched in 2004, the jewelry collection takes everyday life and the world as its source of inspiration. The venue for our Christmas dinner was Samplings on the 14th at Berjaya Times Square Hotel

We got a lovely view of the KL skyline

The chefs preparing our meal

Put a bunch of girls and Insta-friendly food and you can be assured that all the cameras and smartphones will come out first for photos before a single bite goes into the mouth!

Pan-Seared Scallop

Avocado Tian with Mango-Tomato Salsa

Not one or two but THREE scallops accompanied by a rich avocado and mango-tomato salsa which added some lovely piquant and sweet flavours to the umaminess of the scallops! A wonderful starter with lovely vibrant colours and tasted as good as it looked!

Cream of Asparagus

with Mushroom Crostini

This heartwarming soup was well-balanced and not too creamy while letting the flavours of the asparagus shine. We moped up every last drop with the delicious mushroom crostini!

Main Courses

Grilled Cod Fish

with Truffle Risotto and Saffron, Fennel Coulis

Each of us got to select our own main course for the evening and the cod fish was a favourite. The beautifully cooked fish was paired with a rich truffle risotto and topped off with a saffron and fennel coulis! Talk about luxury indeed!

Baked Chicken Picatta

Mushroom Fricassee and Aged Balsamic Sauce

The baked chicken picatta showcased the chefs skills in making a tasty yet tender and moist baked chicken, rounded off with a mushroom fricassee and some sharpness from the aged balsamic sauce.

Christmas Turkey

with Chateau Potato and Glaze sweet potato, Mushroom Fricassee

Topped with Cranberry Gravy

As Christmas was around the corner, this dish was immensely popular among our influencers as it reflected the season’s festive mood! The delicately cooked Christmas turkey was accompanied by potatoes and mushroom fricassee, with a lovely sweet cranberry gravy on the side.

Christmas Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Yet another dish in line with Christmas – a hearty traditional Christmas dessert which provided a sweet end to the meal.

It was a wonderful meal with great company, flowing conversations, and good food and drink – a fitting way to end a very eventful year for MHB! Here’s to an even better 2018!

Throughout the evening, we had Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc, the French Premium Wheat Beer that is very distinct as it comes in a light blue hue coloured bottle. The refreshing cloudy liquid has a unique smooth-taste with hints of citrus and coriander spice, making it a favourite among many female beer drinkers. The beer is brewed with the caviar of noble hops – Strisselspalt hops, which offers an exquisite aromatic flavour that embodies the elegance of France.

MHB’s 6th Anniversary High-Tea at Element Kuala Lumpur Hotel

[Special Event]

MHB (http://hottestbloggers.com) is a digital and influencer content marketing agency which believes that digital publicity should be engaging while being affordable and cost-effective. We believe in conveying our clients’ message through ethical, high-quality, and trustworthy content in a lifestyle and non-hard sell manner that will stand out from all the junk, tabloid clutter and fake news, capturing the attention of consumers as well as providing positive brand awareness.

MHB is trusted by many brands including Montblanc, Ball Watch, Panasonic, Sony, Leica, Fujifilm, Calvin Klein Watches & Jewelry (Swatch Group Malaysia), Nivea, Chevrolet, Olympus, Lenovo, Casio, Carlsberg, Johnnie Walker, GUESS, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss and Gucci fragrances, Givenchy, Ricoh, and many more to provide quality and ethical digital media publicity.

We also have strategic media partnerships with many top brands such as Calvin Klein fragrances (Luxasia), Kerastase, Nissan, Ice Watch, Storm London, and more! On a local level, we work with prominent brands like Celcom, Poh Kong, 1 Utama, Atria Shopping Centre, EcoWorld, Encorp, De Jouer, Beaute Library, Nomi Tomo, Shawn Cutler and numerous other brands in need of affordable yet cost-effective digital publicity.

We provide cost-effective advertising packages to suit various brands and budgets, from independent stores to SMEs, all the way to MNCs and global brands.

To celebrate our 6th anniversary, we partnered with Xiaomi, Poh Kong and Element Kuala Lumpur Hotel for a delectable ARTEASTRY high-tea at Trace, the hotel’s all day dining restaurant. The name ARTEASTRY stands for Art, Tea and Pastry, and high-tea is set against the modern, artistic features of Element Kuala Lumpur, providing an ideal combination for a weekend social gathering with family and friends. TRACE restaurant & bar is situated at level 40 of KL’s tallest eco-friendly hotel, and offers a first of its kind artistic high tea while you enjoy breathtaking views of the city skyline.

Our ARTEASTRY experience began with the arrival of a contemporary bento box, beautifully decorated with synthetic grass and black, shiny modern slates – very Instagrammable indeed! The bento box is filled with delicious morsels such as dainty savoury bites containing Waffle with Salmon and Crème Fraiche, Apple Duck in Savoury Cone, Chicken Sliders in Mini Croissant with Tomato Relish, Tomato and Basil Macaroon, Confit Portobello Mushroom and Swiss Cheese Bruschetta. A must-have during high-tea are scones, and the light and fluffy Earl Grey Tea infused Scones at TRACE are served with clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam.

The dessert is the highlight of the ARTEASTRY experience, and sets this high tea apart from the typical presentation of buffet spreads or three-tiered cake stands. “The Red Splash” dessert is literally splashed on your table. The chef places a white chocolate sphere and paints an edible artwork on the table with drops and strokes of Framboise a la Mascarpone, Raspberry Confit, Raspberries, Meringue Sticks, Vanilla Soil, Sponge Fingers and Mango Chutney on a piece of “newspaper-like” food grade paper.  To end the performance, we got to pick the white chocolate sphere and drop it in the middle of the art piece, creating a delectable mess on the table.

The ARTEASTRY is priced at RM128nett for 2 persons, and is available on weekends (Saturday & Sunday), from 1.00pm to 5.00pm at the TRACE Restaurant and Bar, in Element Kuala Lumpur.

Mi A1

The event was also supported by Xiaomi who provided us with their latest model – the Mi A1. The Mi A1 runs on stock Android to offer a high-quality software experience designed by Google, underscoring Xiaomi’s commitment to providing more choices for users. Priced at RM999 in Malaysia, the Mi A1 is a beautifully-designed device that combines hardware innovations, including an optical zoom dual camera setup, with great Google-designed software.

Mi A1 incorporates a dual camera configuration similar to that in Mi 6, Xiaomi’s latest flagship device, with wide angle and telephoto lenses used to incredible effect. The two lenses allow Mi A1 to calculate what is in the foreground and what is in the background, creating a depth-of-field effect that typically requires a DSLR lens to achieve, allowing the user to create photos of unparalleled clarity and colour. In addition, an improved Beautify mode that makes selfies look more natural, now works with the both the front 5MP camera as well as the 12MP dual rear camera. Mi A1 supports 2x optical zoom, which makes photos of distant subjects remain clear, while 10x digital zoom is also supported.

While all that sounds pretty good on paper, how does it perform in real life? So we decided to snap some pics using the phone’s front and back cameras during the high-tea to see the results.

Here are the photos we shot with the Mi A1. Click on the individual photos to open a larger version.

Although it was a rather cloudy day, we were surprised to find that the indoor photos taken in the restaurant were sufficiently exposed, rendering bright and realistic colours as well as the option to be more artsy with the bokeh feature. The contrast and level of details were also pretty impressive for a mid-range smartphone, as seen in the photos of the pool.

The rear camera produced some very natural looking skin tones when shooting people, and even bokeh for portrait shoots. The girls were also impressed that the front camera allowed for decent selfies with an auto-beautify function – something every influencer loves.

Mi A1 is Xiaomi’s first Android One phone, with a software experience designed by Google, offering users a simple, pure Android phone that stays fresh over time with OS upgrades. As an Android One smartphone, Mi A1 comes with the most popular Google services built-in as default, such as free unlimited high quality storage from Google Photos.

Available in Black, Gold and Rose Gold, Mi A1 has an attractive full-metal body design that measures just 7.3mm in thickness, with discreet separation lines for a seamless look and rounded edges for great hand feel. It also comes with a rear fingerprint sensor.

Featuring a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved glass screen featuring Corning® Gorilla® Glass protection, Mi A1 also boasts a 10v power amplifier for deeper lows and higher volumes, ensuring it provides an immersive media experience. A dedicated amplifier also provides support for high-impedance headphones (up to 600 ohms).

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor based on the 14nm manufacturing process, as well as a 3080mAh battery, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage making it a real value for money mid-range smartphone indeed!

Maui Jim x Malaya Optical x MHB Influencer Day

[Special Event]

Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers (MHB) recently ran a collaborative engagement with renowned sunglasses brand Maui Jim from Hawaii and established eyewear specialist Malaya Optical. The engagement saw over two dozen notable social media influencers, beauty queens, as well as bloggers visit Malaya Optical in Uptown Damansara to check out the new range of Maui Jim sunglasses which landed on our shores not too long ago.

Maui Jim started out in 1980 as a small company selling sunglasses on the beach in Lahaina on the island of Maui, which is part of the Hawaiian islands. Maui is one of the lushest, most vibrant places on earth. Yet its intense sunlight creates conditions that hide the beauty of the island when viewed with the naked eye.

Recognising a blue ocean market for technology that could combat intense glare and harmful UV while bringing the brilliant colours of the island to life, Maui Jim developed their revolutionary PolarizedPlus2® lens, which provides greater colour, clarity, and detail, while shielding your eyes from glare and harmful UV.

Maui Jim’s patented multi-layered lens design allows more usable light to be transmitted to the eyes, resulting in unrivaled visual acuity, contrast and colour are the exquisite results. This allows the user to experience deeper, more saturated colours and higher levels of contrast in any environment.

The patented PolarisedPlus2® lens technology also eliminates 99.9% of glare and blocks 100% of harmful UV rays, and thus Maui Jim sunglasses are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective UV filter for the eyes and surrounding skin. It is the only premium sunglasses brand carrying the Skin Cancer Foundation’s seal of approval.

Available in four lens colours, Maui Jim® offers an option for every level of light. Neutral Grey lenses offer contrast and the highest available glare reduction and are suitable for all light conditions, especially bright, direct sunlight. Maui Rose® lenses offer the sharpest contrast and image resolution. They are excellent for fast action activities, overcast or foggy days. HCL® (High Contrast Lens) Bronze lenses offer enhanced contrast and are ideal for hazy and low light conditions. The new HT™ (High Transmission) lenses are perfect for variable and low light conditions, haze, fog, or overcast days and feature a flattering palm tint without a distracting yellow cast.

Today, Maui Jim offers over 125 styles of sunglasses, 100% of which are polarized and protect from 100% of UVA and UVB rays, with Polarizedplus2® Lens Technology for brilliant colour so every detail is crisper and cleaner and without glare or harmful UV.

The store houses women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, a special area for handbags, and the quintessential dedicated VIP area and fitting room. The decor features lustrous, monochromatic details, dramatic accents of chrome and glass and sumptuous furnishings, reflecting the timeless elegance of Dior within a modern and extremely sophisticated setting.

A number of specially-chosen art pieces from prominent international artists can be viewed in Dior KLCC – as Christian Dior was a patron of the arts. The ready-to-wear area, with its cabochon floor, is the perfect home for the hurricane mirror by Fredrikson Stallard as well as a cityscape credenza by the eminent American artist Paul Evans and a stool by Thierry Lemaire. Toast The Macallan Kuala Lumpur 2016

[Special Event]

The girls from Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers and I headed over to the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur for the inaugural Toast The Macallan (2016) which is a pop-up exhibition-styled event that will be held from the 26th of September to the 1st of October 2016. Toast The Macallan was featured as a pop-up experiential stage where guests not only learn about the whisky and brand thru a lively and entertaining whisky tasting session, but would also be able to savour the latest range of The Macallan whiskies.

This global circuit event has previously been to neighbouring markets like Jakarta and Singapore, and being very popular in countries such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, Toast The Macallan made its was to Kuala Lumpur to give aspirational whisky connoisseurs a chance to experience their world famous single malt scotch whisky.

The prestigious experience was held over six (6) consecutive days in an elegant and bespoke ambience at the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur, hosted by The Macallan Brand Trainer, Keith Nair and Brand Advocate, Randall Tan. The best part was that tickets to this event were priced at only RM50 nett per person, which includes a whisky tasting flight of the brand’s signature single malts, entry passes to the exhibition area and The Macallan lounge where guests were treated to custom-made cocktails.

Founded in 1824 and immersed in its rich history, The Macallan is one of the best-selling single malt scotch whisky across Asia and Malaysia is becoming one of the key countries to see a significant preference for single malts, which is an appreciated lifestyle of the affluent. With this in mind, Toast The Macallan is aimed at individuals who are brassy and keen to learn more about the esteemed single malt whisky.

During the masterclass, The Macallan has also unveiled its newest series dubbed the Trilogy, which consists of, The Macallan Fine Oak 12 Years Old, The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old and its latest expression The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old.

“The Macallan has always been one of the leading brands in the single malt category and we are very excited to introduce our newest range, The Macallan Trilogy. This platform would allow consumers to experience what The Macallan really stands for and why our whiskies are exceptional in its class” explains Chief Representative of Edrington Malaysia, Mr Edwin Yeo.

The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old is a single malt that tells a journey; a story that brings together two different worlds. Bringing new oak from America across the seas to Spain, the casks are crafted and seasoned with sherry before making its way back to their distillery in Scotland and left to mature for at least 12 years before harmoniously blending them with the very best sherry-seasoned European Oak Casks.

Commenting on the Double Cask, Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker; said, “This is a single malt which celebrates the coming together of two styles to create a fully rounded and distinctive flavour.” It is often said that when two worlds come together, they create something magical and this is what the Double Cask represents.
